MANUEL VASQUEZ a.k.a (Dj Rysk)
Dj / Program Director / Webpage Master / Myspace / Facebook
I was born on July 10th 1980 in San Jose, California and raised in Austin, Texas. I grew up with Tejano Music, my parents listened to it often and I remember when I was little I would go to my grandparents house and would see my grandfather Manuel Ramos watching Johnny Canales. Member Johnny Canales? Anyway, when Johnny Canales had bands perform my grandfather would grab his accordion and his acoustic guitar and play while he watched the bands as if he was playing with the band. It was the greatest thing for me to ever watch. He passed away in '92. I never really appreciated Tejano after that. In the 90's is when Tejano Music became really big, I remember the Aqua Fest, the Jamaica's, the Quincenera's, & the weddings I would attend and the majority of music they played was Tejano. Though it was still apart of my life I never payed attention to the music.
At the time of the Tejano Explosion while I was in middle school I got into a genre of music called Freestyle also known as Heart throb, Latin Hip Hop with artist known as Johnny o, Cynthia, Stevie B., Collage, Lil Suzy, etc. I stuck to that genre all the way through high school. It wasn't until I got a job @ Mikes Formal Wear with my now partner in crime Michael Borrero in 1999 who brought me back to the Tejano Scene. Still wet behind the ears I slowly started to listen to the music again and 2003 I established Dj Rysk Productions. I quickly picked up the art of DJing, practicing when I had the chance and building my Tejano Music collection mostly from my dads Tejano cd collection. In 2005 Mike opened up the Diamond Ballroom thats when I really got back into Tejano Music. I started DJing for Mike's events and when someone needed a dj at the last minute. At that time is when Austin's only Tejano radio station finally faded away and we no longer had the ballroom.
3 years later we started listening to KXTN in San Antonio flip flopping from one internet radio station to the next. Then one day in october after months of fustration I asked Mike "how hard would it be to start our own internet radio station"? Thinking he would think I'm crazy and thinking he wouldn't go for it he turned, looked at me and said lets do it! After 3 months of planning PureTejanoRadio.com came to life. Through the first year and a half PTR has gone through changes, we add music as we go along, were on 24/7, we try to offer more than the rest and we will never bring the site down just to maitenance.
We do this for the love of Tejano!
This is my commitment to Tejano Music, I spin it & stream it, there is no better latin genre than TEJANO!
